Spinal Decompression is a Viable Alternative to Spinal Surgery
For some, spinal decompression is a viable alternative to spinal surgery. It can also helpful for those who have had previous back surgeries.
When the discs of the spine are compressed or bulging, they are unable to get the nutrients and oxygen that they need to stay healthy. Compressed discs can also put pressure on your nerves causing pain and numbness in your back as well as to your arms and legs. If left untreated, your body will react by depositing calcium (bone spurs) in your spine in an effort to regain stability. Over time, these bone spurs will result in a condition called degenerative arthritis.
Spinal decompression therapy gently stretches your spine in a controlled and specific way to reduce the pressure on your discs. This improves the flow of blood and nutrients to the affected area and can reduce pain. This can increase mobility which will help to minimize calcium deposits and bone spurs.
Not every treatment option is right for every patient. One of our doctors will recommend the combination of treatment options that is best suited for your individual situation.
