Your First Visit To The Chiropractor
Some things to expect
Your First Visit
You should allow for 1 to 1½ hours for your first visit to our office. This will enable you to discuss your condition with the physician, receive a thorough examination, and ask any questions that you may have.
Patient Forms
Upon entering our office, our receptionist will welcome you as a member of our family. We will request that you complete some forms so we have a complete picture of your condition and your health history. You can save yourself some time at the clinic by downloading and completing these forms before you come in. You can find our forms here.
Consultation
Next, you will have a consultation with one of our chiropractic physicians to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for us to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine if chiropractic care can meet your goals.
Examination
After your consultation, we will perform a complete chiropractic examination testing your reflexes and flexibility. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests will be performed as well. However, nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
Digital X-Rays
Depending on your specific condition, we may also take X-rays. X-rays help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions. We use digital x-ray technology which reduces the level of radiation, produces faster results, and makes for easier file transfers. Most people are amazed once they see their X-rays up close. In some cases, they can even identify their misalignment’s and degeneration themselves.
Important to Know
It is important to know that most new patients do not receive a chiropractic adjustment during their initial visit. That is because our doctors need to have time to thoroughly review all of the findings from your exam and X-rays before conducting a spinal manipulation. If you are in pain, we will make recommendations for ways to ease your pain, and we will schedule your next appointment as soon as possible.
Report of Findings
Within 1 to 3 days of your initial visit, we will have you return to our office for a Report of Findings appointment. At this time, we will review and discuss your X-rays, the findings of our initial exams, your health history, and your goals for treatment. We will then review our recommendations and treatment options.
Together, we will develop a personalized plan for treating your condition and answer any questions that you may have. If we are unable to provide care that we feel will benefit you and your condition, we will tell you and make a recommendation to see another provider.
Bring a Family Member or Friend
We encourage you to bring a family member or trusted friend with you to this appointment. We will be sharing a lot of information and discussing various treatment options, and we find that most patients benefit from having someone with them to help ask questions, discuss options, and make the best decisions for their care.
Treatment
At the conclusion of the Report of Findings appointment, you can choose to experience your first treatment. Treatment is interactive, so you should feel free to ask any questions about your treatment at any time.
